Sister Spotlight for the Fall 2015 semester goes out to junior Sofi LaLonde and the TEDx team. Sofi, as well as fellow Thetas Lindsay Brown and Bridget Behrens, are all on the executive board of the TEDx club on campus. The TEDx event this year featured the theme Crafting Global Minds and how UW-Madison specifically is changing the world. Sofi, a Psi Chapter Scholarship Director, is the president of this organization and she took part in the organization of this event over the course of the past year. As president, Sofi had a hand in every step of the process from arranging the speakers to leading the club meetings.

There were 100 available seats for the event this year and the tickets sold out in slightly over an hour with the first 46 being sold in less than two minutes. The concept behind TED talks is evident in their slogan, “Ideas worth spreading.” During the event this year, speakers spoke on a wide range of topics while sharing their world views and ideas. From a polar explorer to an undergraduate that experienced homelessness as a student, the event provided those in attendance with much to think about and explore. Thanks to the work of Sofi, as well as the other Thetas who are members of this organization, TEDx is a flourishing club at UW-Madison. We are so proud to have sisters taking leadership roles all over campus and truly exemplify our ideal of leading women.
