Sisterhood is one of the greatest gifts Kappa Alpha Theta offers to its sisters. Psi Chapter loves organizing events to help us become closer as a fraternity and build the lifelong friendships we know have been created for so many through our organization. Sisterhood events are a chance for the members of this chapter to take time out of our busy schedules to relax and have fun with our sisters.
Our first event was right after Bid Day and it was a great opportunity for our new members to get a taste of what being a Theta is all about. We enjoyed the beautiful Madison weather by walking around the Dane County Farmer’s Market. From the stunning view of Wisconsin’s capitol building to eating organic fruit and freshly made pastries, our sisters had a blast catching up with each other after summer break and getting to know our new members.
Another way that we got our new members involved this fall was by having a speed-dating sisterhood. Sisters came to the house and talked with new members for about five minutes each. It was a great way for new members to connect with girls they may not have met before and to get an even better idea of the types of women who call Theta home. We have such a diverse sisterhood that each new member easily found a niche; this sisterhood event helped open them up to new Theta horizons.
Later on in the fall, our members went to Eplegaarden, an apple orchard and pumpkin patch just outside downtown Madison. We had a blast picking apples and eating the amazing fall dishes they served. This sisterhood event got us all in the fall spirit.
Our final sisterhood of the semester was a joint event with University of Wisconsin – Madison’s newest Panhellenic chapter, Alpha Xi Delta. We invited the women of Alpha Xi Delta to our house for an afternoon of snacking, chatting, and Minute to Win It games. Getting to know our Panhellenic neighbors and having the opportunity to welcome another chapter to our wonderful campus was a terrific experience for us.
Sisterhood events are the perfect opportunity for members, young and old, to bond with each other beyond weekly chapter meetings. These events truly open members’ eyes to how lucky we are to have found such a meaningful sisterhood, even friendships as close as family, right here on campus. Thank you to our Human Resources Director, Christina Dudley, for organizing these events! We can't wait to see what next semester has in store.
